Back Issues

Back Issues is an idea that was inspired from the websites Women in Refrigerators and The Hawkeye Initiative and is a Tumblr and Twitter account that hopefully will bring up to light some of the issues that surround the comic and video game world when it comes to gender issues. I will be sharing through the accounts any links, images, videos and thoughts on current and past issues relating to the topics.

The name comes from the often used pose for women in comics where their torso is twisted in such a way that their impossibly breast and buttocks are facing the reader and often end up in a painful looking poses. A couple of examples:

An apparently one legged Psylocke does an awkward looking handstand (???) while her limbs are broken in dozens of places.
Here Spider girl apparently forgets that Spider use all of their limbs to crawl and instead chooses to walk on her hands so the viewer can get a better look at her prominent buttocks.
By bringing up these issues to light along with light dose of snark, I'm hoping that this material will lead to discussions about how we can improve the media and lead to a better reading experience.
